Discover Exciting Internships in GIS and IT Field Support at Solano County

Posted on May 3, 2024

Are you interested in technology and looking for a great place to learn more about it? Solano County’s Department of Information Technology has two special Internship opportunities open to anyone, starting this June. These jobs are in two areas: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and IT Field Support. Plus, you get paid while you learn and work!

What is GIS?

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a way to collect, keep, and study data that helps us understand where things are. Imagine a map that not only shows places but also tells you lots of information about those places. GIS helps us make smart choices by showing us patterns and links between different things on a map.

If you love maps, figuring out puzzles, or learning about nature with technology, a GIS internship is perfect for you. Here’s what you’ll get to do:

  • Work with Data: You’ll learn how to handle and organize important data, like updating maps and keeping them accurate.
  • Make Maps: You’ll use special rules and tools to create easy-to-understand and helpful maps.
  • Create Web Maps: You’ll also get to make maps on the computer that other people can interact with online.

If you’re good at solving tech problems and like helping people, the IT Field Support internship is a good choice. In this job, you will:

  • Join Bigger Projects: You’ll be part of larger projects that help the whole county’s computer systems work better.

What’s Great About These Internships?

Both jobs let you work more hours in the summer and fewer when school is in session. Here’s what else you’ll get:

  • Learn from Pros: Work with people who know a lot about GIS or IT and learn skills that can help you in the future.
  • Help Your Community: The work you do will help make your community better.
  • Earn Money: You’ll earn $17.60 an hour.
  • Timely: The internships will start in June and can continue for up to 6 months.
