1. GEOG 120-79041: Introduction to Geographic Information System (GIS)
Dates: 8/26/2024 – 10/19/2024
Kick off your journey with this fundamental course that covers the basics of GIS. You’ll learn to identify and acquire GIS data, explore vector and raster systems, understand map projections and coordinate systems, and dive into spatial analysis and modeling. The course is hands-on, culminating in a GIS project where you’ll apply your skills and build a map portfolio.
2. GEOG 121-79042: Intermediate GIS
Dates: 10/21/2024 – 12/14/2024
Build on the knowledge you gained in GEOG 120 with this intermediate course. You’ll advance your GIS analysis skills, reinforce practical applications, and delve into geographic coordinate systems, raster data processing, and spatial databases. Through practical exercises, you’ll learn to implement these techniques and enhance your GIS proficiency.

This program is led by Matt Lamborn, GIS Department Coordinator of Napa County. With extensive experience in GIS across multiple disciplines – from vineyards and wineries to open space and parks, humanitarian GIS, and public agencies – Matt brings real-world expertise to the classroom. You’ll learn to use industry-standard tools like ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, ensuring you’re ready to meet the demands of the field.
